itinerary George Town supper crawl: 4 stops on foot
4 stops · 1.7km on foot
Four stops, about 1.7km on foot, working west from Lebuh Carnarvon towards the Macalister Road end of town. It opens on a roadside wantan mee stall and closes on Teochew porridge, with curry rice and live seafood in between. Three of the four are cheap. The seafood is not, at RM 120 a head, so decide early whether it stays in.

Photo: Antonio Florit via Google Maps Mother And Son Wonton Mee Stall has held the Carnarvon and Chulia corner for forty years and still pulls the longest wantan mee queue in the quarter. It stops serving at 22:00, so take it first. Noodles come chewy without that alkaline taste, dumplings run juicy, and the tables are kerbside with traffic going past.

Photo: M. Azham via Google Maps Nasi Kandar Deen Mutiara on Hutton is the cheap one, under RM 20 a head. Point at the curry spread rather than asking for a menu; it is laid out to be looked at, and the room fills with locals and tourists even midweek. Busy and crowd-pleasing rather than a purist's kandar.

Superior fish soup, butter prawns and dry curry crab are the three that repeat across reviews. Reckon on RM 120 a head, and book over WhatsApp rather than turning up.

Photo: Google review via Google Maps New Day Porridge has done Teochew porridge on Lorong Selamat for decades, and it is what the street becomes once the daytime hawker trade clears out. Pick from the trays of ready-made dishes or order something fresh; the fried fish and old cucumber soup are the local defaults. Expect a wait for a table at weekends.
