itinerary Jelutong dinner crawl: 4 stops on foot
4 stops · 0.8km on foot
Jelutong fits four different dinners into 816m of pavement, close enough that you can park once and do the lot on foot. The clock is the tricky bit. The satay grill goes cold hours before the nasi lemak stops frying, so an early start gets you all four stops and a late one gets you half of them.
1 17:00 to 23:30 · shut Tuesday
Photo: Yong Lin Cheah via Google Maps Nasi Lemak Liverpool has been frying since 2000 and still does it late, with football on outdoors and the tables filling up under it. Get the ayam goreng berempah. The fried drumstick is what most people turn up for, and the sambal carries a fragrant underlay beneath the heat.
2 10:30 to 20:30 · 69m from the last stop · shut Tuesday
Photo: Khoo Jiunn Hwan via Google Maps Eaton Satay shuts earliest of the four at 20:30, so take it before the night gets away from you. The skewers come charred to a smoky savoury edge over a special sauce, and the grill sits in a crowded hawker court, so expect to use your elbows to get near it.
3 06:30 to 21:30 · 388m from the last stop
Photo: Google review via Google Maps No.76 Coffee Stall sits in the Batu Lanchang food court and pulls latte art onto plain kopitiam kopi, which is why weekend breakfast seats go so fast. Its nasi lemak comes three or four ways with sambal from different vendors, the Malay-style one hotter than the others. Kaya toast to finish.
4 13:00 to 22:00 · 359m from the last stop
Photo: Google review via Google Maps Shun Li Cafe Asam Laksa does not open until 13:00, which suits a dinner run fine. It is one stall in a corner kopitiam near Lam Wah Ee Hospital, sharing the floor with kuey teow soup, roasts and western plates, so point at the laksa specifically. The bowl runs tangy and sharp.
