Even though I’m Singaporean with a Peranakan paternal grandmother, she wasn’t much of a cook so I didn’t know much about Peranakan cuisine. But this private dinner at Little Kitchen@Nyonya in Penang was a chance to learn about it.

An intimate history lesson through food. We got to learn about Jay’s family heritage and the way of nyonya Malay’s with a tour of his family home. There’s also a bonus cook off - teaching us to make his favourite fried rice salad!

Overall it’s worth the experience. Reservations are to be made in advance. Owner Baba Jay and his son Nicholas are very warm hosts for our experience. Located in the city centre.

I was so lucky to get a reservation at the restaurant in Baba Jay. I highly recommend it to anyone interested in authentic Peranakan culture and cuisine – a truly unique cultural experience!

We had a wonderful experience with Baba Jay. Did a Reservetion. I made a choice to grab there, it was a right choice, not much parking space. Food was serve perfectly for me. A small bite of every dishes, I still can’t finish all of it.

The food is delicious, and the boss will start the show by telling a story. It feels like an immersive experience. After the meal, he will take you to walk around the streets, which is more like a visual and taste tour than a meal.

Nice and warm welcome from owner. We have private classic omakase from here. Thank you for nice and unique experience. All food are well prepared at great flavours and good freshness. This restaurant is a must visit if going to george town.

Must try. For those that don't want just a generic peranakan restaurant which there are many in penang. This place will bring you on a guided peranakan history n dining. Highly recommended.

Excellent experience with Baba Jay! Learnt a lot about Peranakan culture and had hands on to make Nasi Ulam. Highly recommend to take an evening out of your schedule to check out this place!

Incredible and absolutely worth it!!! It’s 200 RM (cash or bank transfer only, no cards) for a full 16 course meal that includes drinks and desserts. Baba Jay is so friendly and welcoming.
