The prawns were very fresh, big and bursty. The crispy pieces of lard were well distributed and there were also bits of crushed up lard. Thin, slightly crisped Lap Cheong (chinese sausage), juicy cockles, egg and chives – it was THE ultimate plate of char kway teow.

Lorong Selamat Char Koay Teow A legendary char koay teow since 1967, its quality is undeniable. The wok hei is strong, the noodles are soft but not mushy, and the toppings of large shrimp, lap cheong, and egg create a rich flavor.

The CKT is a let down. No taste and really oily. I wonder why this place is recommended by some article. If you have high expectation eating a good plate of CKT you will be unhappy. Not easy to get parking around here.

This was without a doubt my favourite CKT when I first tried it exactly 10 years ago and I returned many times since. Fast forward post-Covid, I had it today and could not finish my plate because it was so so so salty.

Tried 10 CKT around Penang and this is my favourite so far. This plate doesn’t rely on hum or cai poh. Instead, it’s about fat control and flavour clarity. Pork lard is fragrant, Chinese sausage brings a rounded sweetness.

Standard dropped, lack in wok hei and taste salty. Overall, still ok but will not miss it or go back. Prawns are fresh and nice though. Also ordered the rojak...also not nice and expensive at RM17! The rojak sauce lack oomph.

By far, this is the most delicious CKT for me in Penang. Not too oily, the saltiness is already OK, not to mention the super big and juicy prawns. Definitely worth the wait.

Honestly, this place is overrated 😕 1. The koay teow tasted salty, priced at RM13 for a small portion. 2. Orchien oysters were small. 3. Ice kacang a lot of ants.
