Many still refer to it as Seow Fong Lye or Macalister Road Chee Cheong Fun, a nod to its Burma Road origins. This humble business has been around since 1955. Possibly one of the oldest in town—and still drawing a loyal weekend crowd.

This humble pushcart has been around for 60 years or so and the rice rolls, eaten with prawn paste and chilli sauce, are a class of their own. It’s best to come early, as they often run out before noon.

Lee Fook Loon started a stall selling the Penang-style chee cheong fun at a corner coffee shop along Macalister Lane and Burmah Road back in 1955.

One of the Chee Cheong Fun stalls that I’m used to going back to is located in front of Seow Fong Lye coffee shop in Macalister Lane. Each morning, many people are seen waiting for the Chee Cheong Fun.
