There are many chu char stalls in Bukit Mertajam and one such shop that serves simple and robust Teochew food is Yoong Kee Eating Shop. This shop is among one of the oldest Teochew restaurants around town.

This is very local and homey style, like eating at your grandma's (if your grandma kept it real simple!). It's definitely local style, no fancy stuff at all. Think basic, no frills.

Kochabi chu char that has been around for a long time. Ordered a few of their signature dishes & it's quite good. Flavours are simple & not too overpowering. Everything is just nice. A good place for a simple good meal.

Reach there 12:30pm. First time try the food. We order the stingray fish steam with salted vege, pork steam with ginger & tofu fried paku chai. Have its own special taste. Not very heavy taste or not salty. Nice

The dried tofu and chives are a must-try, super delicious. The steamed pork belly with salted fish is also very good with rice. In summary, it feels like a home-cooked meal.
