The fried char koay teow and the light noodle dish of koay teow th’ng is a popular hawker food across Penang. For those staying around Hillside in Tanjung Bungah Penang, one best place to try these two dishes is at Ah Soon Char Koay Teow…

Georgetown has the beloved Siam Road Char Koay Teow and Tanjung Bungah has our own Ah Soon Char Koay Teow. If you look closer, the two resembles one another since they’re both awesomely good and they both opt for a charcoal-fired stove.

A neighborhood favorite since 1983, Ah Soon’s Char Koay Teow is the kind locals swear by. Each plate comes loaded with plump prawns, juicy cockles, and that unmistakable wok-fired aroma.

Their stall used to be at Huat Seng Coffee Shop but then they have moved to the shop at three doors away, named Ah Soon Hillside Cafe. Steaming hot CKT (RM 4.50), came with shiny looking koay teow looks so intriguing.

Easily one of the best char kuey teow I’ve ever had! Ah Soon Char Kuey Teow in Tanjung Tokong has over 40 years of history, and you can really taste the experience in every bite.

The char koay teow was very disappointing — there was no wok hei at all, the flavour was flat and lacked depth, and the portion was small. At RM9.50 for a small plate, it’s definitely not worth the price.

We were told that this was a very good CKT to try out. It had some "wok hei" flavour to it, however, it was sadly plain and bland. we got a better one later at the Astaka Hillside food centre.

CKT here is ok but nothing special and price is on the highside too. Parking is horrible here.

Feel that Dry koay teow is better than signature char koay teow

CKT tasted ok but too dry and too salty.
