For the uninitiated, amplah (aka ambra) is similar to sour plum, so the drink is sour yet sweet (not like the pork). I’ve been trying amplah juice all over Penang and this is the best one yet, a MUST-TRY DRINK when you’re in Penang.

Hon Kei has since moved to a larger premise a few doors away from the coffeeshop, offering pork noodles, porridge and other items like fish noodles, tomyam noodles and fried dishes.

If you grew up in Penang, you’ve probably had a bowl from Hon Kei Food Corner (汉记小食店) at least once.
Tucked along Kampung Malabar, this once-tiny pushcart has grown into one of Penang’s best-known food spots.

Hon Kei Food Corner 汉记小食店 previously was a stall in Ho Ping Coffee Shop at the junction of Penang Road and Jalan Kampong Malabar selling famous Bak Moi (Pork Porridge). Recently, it moved to its own premise few shops away.

Dropped by at Hon Kei Food Corner for porridge after the heritage walk. Taste wise good, more ingredients compared to the porridge I had earlier this week at Perak Lane. Waited 5 mins for the food to arrive, (versus 35 mins) and price is 2.
