Wan Dao Tou Assam Laksa has been one of my go-to spots in Penang for satisfying my laksa cravings long before they received the prestigious MICHELIN Bib Gourmand Award.

Wan Dao Tou 湾岛头叻沙 Assam Laksa in Penang looks like your typical Malaysian eatery, permanently busy and unpretentious, with simple tables and stools to sit and eat on. Known for its delicious Assam Laksa noodle soup (RM6.50 for small, RM7.

A extra empty bowl costs RM5 ! Can you believe it ? This happened during our recent visit in May. We brought our overseas friends to try the local laksa. We ordered two bowls of laksa and some fried spring rolls.

Really delicious Assam laksa. The broth was flavorful and nicely balanced between sour, sweet and savory flavors while the fresh herbs were aromatic and provided some texture.

Visited during a weekday afternoon, not too crowded and service was quick. Penang laksa was awarded michelin star, quite nice but didn’t taste too authentic. Popiah wasn’t great so wouldn’t recommend it.

Well organised establishment and the number of street food awards and Michelin awards garnered by the two ladies is testament to their achievements.

I've been visiting Wan Dao Tou Assam Laksa for over 20 years, and it remains a true local favorite for assam laksa. The flavors are consistently authentic, and every visit brings back that nostalgic taste Penang is known for.

Tried the famous Wan Dao Tou Assam Laksa — Michelin Recommended. The broth is on the refreshing side — tangy, aromatic, and not overly thick or gelat, which makes it really enjoyable till the last sip.

Perhaps I didn't understand Laksa. It tasted sour with a hint of twigs, and I couldn't taste the expected fishy flavor. The only good thing about the bowl was the noodles, which were chewy and springy.

Best Michelin awarded Assam Laksa in Penang. They also serve delicious Curry Laksa there. The place is busy, the best part is no long queue with 10 or 20 people lining up.

This Michelin-awarded Assam laksa truly deserves the recognition. It is delicious and the soup is rich and flavourful. The ingredients blend very well with the broth and rice noodles.

The assam laksa here is AMAZING! Rich savory broth with bright flavors. Balance of umami with the acid of pineapple and fresh vegetables. And the rice noodles used are also special.

I don't understand why they've had so many Michelin stars for so many years 😅. The soup was sweet, with very little toppings. And this was a large bowl! The tea room drinks were too sweet. They didn't have much flavor.
