The Place Located within George Town, Tek Sen Restaurant is easily where I had one of my best meals in Penang. I was warned about the notoriously long queue, hence I made the effort to arrive ten minutes before it opens at 12pm.

When I talked about chu char, you can already guess that Tek Sen is going to dominate our list because this neighbourhood chu char place is just too ‘ho liao ‘ !

It was mad busy, but service is efficient. The menu is in English but the wait staff; take your pick from those in their teenage years to the septuagenarians are all able to rattle off some “ lau chiu pai” aka signatures should you need recommendation.

Just having lunch there, 4 adult with 1 kid. All of us are the first-timer for trying Teksen Restaurant. While q-ing, the lady gave us menu and starting to take our order.

Many people say this is one of the best chinese restaurant in penang. I can agree with that, i ordered 3 dishes : mapo tofu, stringray fish curry and the black pork ( i forgot the name ) but for me the stringray fish is the best!!!

2nd time visited this restaurant. We made a reservation and got into the private room with AC behind. My favorite is the ‘Home Recipe Double Roasted Pork with Chili Padi’ & ‘Oatmeal Shrimp’.

The food here is simply amazing! 🤩 I particularly enjoyed the salted egg prawn, kangkung belacan, and the fried chicken belacan – they were all incredibly flavorful.

I'm Japanese. The Chinese food was a bit pricey, but everything tasted delicious. The water spinach wasn't too spicy, and I felt there was a little less garlic than usual. The chicken with plum dressing was refreshing and delicious.

Food was good, the pork rib with fermented black bean sauce is a bit salty, steamed egg is soft and delicious, stir-fried bean sprouts is delicious. The wait was quite long, around 45 mins.

I visited on September 27, 2025. There was quite a long queue to get in, and it was fully packed during dinner time. The food tastes good, but it’s not something I would line up for again.

Food is great. Seat is limited. Be sure to reached early to avoid long queue. Dish serving consider quite fast despite a full house customer.
