We ate many delicious things in Penang, but this bowl of duck koay chap from Restoran Kimberly was one of the most inspiring. It’s astonishing how much work goes into it. The Por family has been lovingly preparing by hand, from scratch, for over 30 years.

There are only a handful of koay chap stalls in Penang, and perhaps the most popular among them is the one by Kimberly Street in Georgetown that operates in the evenings till late (just by the chicken feet stall ).

Restoran Kimberly has been serving the same duck kway chap noodles for over 3 decades now. According to this article , the noodles are still made in-house using the family recipes, and that’s why their kuay chap remains so delicious.

Penang-style duck kway chap is one of those classic Teochew-rooted local breakfasts here — a super iconic Nanyang Chinese comfort food moment. Kway chap originally comes from the Teochew region.

I came to the night market for dinner at 5.30pm on a weekday, it was not crowded. Walked around before deciding to try this famous stall, it was underwhelming. The kway was thick and not very smooth. The duck meat was mediocre.

The food here is good - that’s why so many people line up. It took me about 10 minutes queing to get the food. Because I don’t know Chinese to communicate with the sellers, I sinfully ordered too much food.

Why the long queue for Michelin star stall while you could get the same thing on the other side? ✅The herbal braised dishes were quite unique. ✅The pork belly was good. ✅The braised eggs were okay. ❌The duck meat was a bit tough.

I ordered duck meat kueh chap. The last time I had kueh chap was back in 2017 when I traveled to Shantou. This bowl of kueh chap was packed with ingredients, including duck meat, duck blood, braised pork intestines, and braised eggs.

Highly overrated place, the kway chap and duck etc. is just ok/decent, nothing to wow about. Luckily there was no queue when we went because I wouldn't queue for this. Personally I'd think Yew Kee outlets in Singapore are much better.

Always been my favourite when it comes to Kway Chap. Taste is good and service is fine too. The only downside when you’re seated inside it’s almost like you’re in a furnace. Very hot and stuffy. Perhaps can have some air cooler.

Visited on a weekday in the off-peak hours between lunch and the night market. Parking was easy to find, there was no need to queue, and I could fully enjoy a delicious, generously topped bowl of Kway Chap.

I was quite used to the duck congee, and the kueh chap was similar to broken kueh teow soaked in soup—both were quite unique and the ingredients were generous. The braised platter was also plentiful.
