I’m not sure if it makes a difference; for a young guy mans the shiny new van for Apom Chooi. Previously Apom Chooi also sells his apom from an old, rickety motorbike stall like Apom Guan’s.

And today I finally found real Chinese Apong from China at apong Chooi stall, no freckles, no pigmentation and best of all, no dark spot! Business Hours Tuesday to Sunday 09:00 am to 06:00 pm Closed on Monday.

The worst apom tasted, so bad I just can’t eat the rest. Bought a pre packed (5pcs) and along the drive, decided to try it, turns out to be tasteless, no santan flavour and soggy. Badly made, I wouldn’t recommend it.

I confess to enjoying fine dining. But the pleasures of eating can also be enjoyed in small, cheap products. Our family like the apom from Apom Chooi on Burma Rd. Filled with banana and sweetcorn, the apom are soft and springy.

A street food you need to try in Penang. The apom is koo zha bee and you will getting addict after your first bite. It is a snack for us and it wont be too sweet.

APOM CHOOI NYONYA PANCAKE Penang The pancakes are delicious, very soft, and just the right amount of sweetness. The original pancakes are filled with banana and corn, and are RM4.50 for 5.
