On the island, one of the most famous breakfast prawn mee spots must be Swee Kong kopitiam at Pulau Tikus. We had the opportunity to get the very last bowl from this popular stall a few weeks ago after the trip up for UTOP trail run event.

Everyone refers to this famous stall as Swee Kong hokkien mee . Local connoisseurs will declare that this is THE No.1 hokkien mee on Penang island. With cabai (chilli paste) that packs just the right amount of lethal wallop to send you slightly over the edge.

Overall a very good experience: the soup base is the real standout here. It is incredibly 'kaw' and packed with deep prawn flavor; you can tell they put the work into the broth.

Pretty good hokkien mee. The broth was rich, flavourful but slightly sweet. I liked its spicy kick too, but those who can't take heat might want to ask for less sambal.

Compare for yourselves! A few "pieces" of small shrimp bits, not a few whole shrimp, cost RM6, which you might think isn't expensive. But look at the first picture; my RM3.90 version tasted better and had more ingredients.

The Hokkien noodles was quite spicy. The chili paste comes in a spoon and it's not possible for one to slowly add the paste accordingly to one's spice level. This can be solved by providing the paste in a small plastic bowl.

The hokkien mee standard has dropped compared to my youth days. Gone are the days where the gravy is super thick with grounded fried prawn shells. Understandably so due to the hard work required in preparing it.

The must had hokkian prawn mee when im in Penang! Usually sold out at 9am 🤭! Do go early before they sold out :) also loving the nostalgic kopitiam atmosphere

The char kuey tiaw taste okay but bit salty, not sure is cause by the salty egg. Hokkein noddle soup taste seem bit heavy and no prawn taste. Anyhow, they sell only RM6 and fast service . The kopi O drink is aroma.

Honestly one of the best prawn mee i ever had in my life. Soup was super thick and flavourful. Be sure to arrive super early i heard it’s possible for them to sell out by 9am

It had a shrimp flavor, but it wasn't too strong. The whole meal was pleasant, but not amazing. RM$6. As a tourist, I have no complaints.
